Determine (a) the acceleration of the blocks, (b) the tension in the cord connecting the left and right blocks, and (c) the force exerted on the center block by the left block. Two blocks are fastened to the ceiling of an elevator, as in the gure. It is possible that the comparatively low differentiation between children with and without visual impairments for the locomotor skill, sliding, may be due to the fact that children were able to achieve a high score on the slide without a flight phase even though there typically is a flight phase in proficient sliding.

First time mom of an 18mo and naturally I'm up at night worried about everything stupid. Thanks brain. The latest that I can't really ever seem to 'solve' is how do you get a very young kiddo down a fire ladder? They don't seem particularly 'sturdy' so using ONE hand to get down a ladder and the other to hold a wriggling kid / baby / infant while tensions are HIGH sounds particularly dangerous.Wanted to group brainstorm and see if anyone had a solution that I hadn't thought of. I know this is a silly question, but I'd rather have an idea of an answer and hopefully NEVER use it than be in the situation and panicked.EDIT: Thank you to all who responded! Outside of having your house prepared (like the firefighters that responded gave info on) it seems the BEST suggestion was to have a baby carrier stored WITH the fire ladder.
The specific question I asked as how to get a wriggly child out of a two/three story house down a fire escape ladder. I don't feel comfortable relying on adrenaline alone, I don't want to plan to throw my kid out the window as others suggested, and since I'm asking ahead of time meaning I have time ot prepare, storing a baby carrier WITH a ladder is the best response. For all those that answered a bag / carrier / etc., this was helpful. Now I challenge you to make sure YOU Have that ready to go as well if necessary! It won't do me any good to have it stored by the front door, so will be looking to find another well-used / cheap but still-has-life-left carrier that I can stash with ladder. Thanks again to all!
And as others have pointed out adrenaline might help in this situation and you'll make do, but right now its all on our mind so plan instead of relying on 'oh i'll figure something out' at the moment. Firefighter here.Your best bet? Make sure your smoke detector batteries are working, and that the detectors are properly placed. Also sleep with your door closed (A MUST, ABSOLUTELY A MUST!) and lastly, know your alternative escape routes. You want to be able to get out with all kiddos before you have to use an alternative fire escape. Also, practice!
Have your children use the ladder and climb out the window. Talk to them about what the plan will be. The best plan is diligent prevention and preparation.
Also firefighter, 100% everything you say. Also, though, if EVERY available escape route is blocked, and say you're stuck on the 2nd story with nothing but a sheer drop outside and you don't feel comfortable going down the ladder, do this:. Close door.
This is THE MOST important step. If time allows, put a towel around the bottom of the door. This will help keep smoke from filling the room. Make sure you call for help.
If you have a cell phone, go ahead and use that sucker and call 911 and MAKE SURE YOU TELL THEM YOU'RE TRAPPED. KEEP THE WINDOW CLOSED. You might feel like it might be a good idea to open the window and start yelling, but by opening the window you are letting fresh air into the house, and the fire will travel to the open window.

The first thing the first officer on scene will do is a 360 of the house. While you're not opening the window, you're sitting right next to it and you're going to be watching for them. It's going to feel like an eternity, but you're going to be watching for them. The second you see them you open that window and you start yelling.
Make sure you get their attention, because the first thing they're going to do is throw a ladder to your window. Once they run around to get the ladder, you could close the window again. Hopefully by this time there's a firefighter there with a ladder at the bottom of your window ready to take you and/or your child out the window and down the ladder.Your best bet is to exit yourself, but if that's impossible, keeping the window closed until you see firefighters outside should keep the fire away long enough to help you get rescued. I'm glad you are here. I have a question for you.i've worried recently about a fire starting in the basement. We sleep with fans and sound machines, so i don't think i'd hear a fire alarm in the basement.
By the time it 'triggered' a first story fire alarm, i feel like it would be too late, and/or could structurally damage the floor of the first floor enough / basement ceiling that we wouldn't really know WHAT is safe.what do you suggest in this scenario? I've looked into 'smart alarms' that could wake you up by blasting your phone, but many of the ones i have seen don't have the actual ability to override your phone settings and alert you, only really can vibrate (or whatever phone setting you have). The interconnected fire alarms are amazing.
And they are fucking loud.Fun fact: Moths are attracted to lights. Fire alarms have small lights on them. Large moths are capable of smacking themselves so hard into the fire alarms that they can press the test button at 3am.In addition to learning moths can press buttons, we confirmed the system works, it will wake us up, the baby will sleep through it, we can get out of bed really freaking fast, I will get the baby, and I probably won’t be wearing pants.
